High plateau over 3,000 m, surrounded by two mountain ranges: the Cordillera Real to the east and with 300 peaks over 5000 m (Illimani Illampu, Condoriri Huyanay Potosi for the most known), the Cordillera Occidental and its volcanoes such as Licancabur or Sajama at west.
This is the most populated region of Bolivia. It has arid climates, where the peaks and salt deserts alongside the infinite and it is undoubtedly among the most beautiful scenery in the world.
The Altiplano lies between the Cordillera Occidental and Cordillera Real. The northern part, where is concentrated the bulk of the population and industry of the country, contains at its end of Titicaca Lake, the highest navigable lake in the world. In contrast, the southern part of the plateau is arid.
Names already reveal a very different world, are located here such as La Paz, stunning capital, and the small town of Copacabana on Titicaca Lake, the starting point for the islands of the sun and moon.
After Titicaca Lake and La Paz the two mountains ranges and still differ between the two stretches between 4000 and 5000 meters of altitude largest desert in the world: the Bolivian Altiplano. It is also nicknamed the Tibet of South America.

Sajama National Park, beautiful, a world of desert-like expanses in the foothills of snowcapped volcanoes.

The inhabitants of this region are the Aymara who deal with the flamingos and small vicuna.
