The Southern Andes
Peru was the El Dorado of the Spanish conquistadors, synonymous with fabulous treasures. It now attracts a crowd of tourists, because it is probably one of the countries of South America with the most treasure, this time tourist.
It is a highland region that includes the very high mountain ranges of the Andes highlands and gorges and deep valleys.
Almost all the classics of Peru are here. You’ll understand that you will see many tourists, too much even … But how could are we in Peru without knowing Cusco (Known as the Rome of the Americas), Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, Sacsayhuaman fortress or the Colca canyon?
It was here where the Inca civilization flourished. Its capital, Cuzco, known as the “Rome of the Incas,” is undoubtedly the most beautiful city in Latin America.
Today is a beautiful colonial town that is visited on foot. Its Quechua name, Qosqo means “navel of the world” because of the extensive network of paths, leaving the city, linking almost all of South America, from southern Colombia to northern Argentina. (I mean the Qhapaq-nan).
But above all awaits the discovery of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu, which in Quechua means “Old Mountain”.
The site is beautiful, breathtaking and full of mysteries.
Multitudes of sites, villages located here are almost the richness of tourism in Peru: the images of white salt mines of Maras, Tombomachay, Chinchero, Ollantaytambo, or Huancayo away from classics.
Farther south, in the Arequipa region, volcanoes as Misti and canyons such as the Colca and condors are a boon to the walker.
Also, a characteristic of this region is very marked the variation in temperature throughout a day. It is quite common to have temperatures ranging up to 25 ° C at noon and falling to 3 ° C at dawn.
Finally, at the boundary with Bolivia, the highlands are known as the Altiplano, very poor area but so special.
The Altiplano offers the spectacle of valleys and snowy peaks, punctuated by Lake Titicaca.
Here, divided between two countries, in a green mountain of forgotten time, sleeps a sea of intense blue and purity unmatched. Dotted with islands and sprinkled with natural floating islands, its azure waters are the cradle of Andean civilization.
Between myths and traditions, let’s board for a wander, through the mercy of the waves of the legendary Titicaca Lake…
